Waiting at the Boating Place, Grasmere

A visit to Grasmere would not be complete without going to the boat-hire place on Red Bank Road, where colourful rowing boats can be hired for a trip round the lake. This is a delightful and peaceful way to spend an hour on the water and take in breathtaking views of the scenery that surrounds the village.

Troutbeck Village

The historic village of Troutbeck, near Windermere, is interlaced with ancient bridleways and this well-known path at Longmire Yeat enjoys a flood of colour from possibly the prettiest back gardens in Lakeland, where gorgeous flowers planted around the walls bloom in the sunshine all summer long.

Opening Time at the Inn

Visitors to the Lake District may be familiar with the Queen's Head Inn on the road approaching the Kirkstone Pass. The interior has old oak beams, an ancient fireplace and the bar is an old four poster bed.

The Parlour

This is a typical old fashioned Lakeland farmhouse interior. A family living room complete with open fire and a line for drying clothes, most household activity took place here. Cooking, eating and get togethers to discuss farm business of the day. It was quite common to have a staircase directly off the parlour and the whole scene has a charm which is largely missing in our modern lives.

Little Langdale from Harrison Stickle

Few fell-tops can be as dramatic as the Langdale Pikes and this view from the very edge, looking west over Blea Tarn to the Coniston fells and including Lake Windermere, is most rewarding on a clear day.

The Gingerbread Shop, Grasmere

The Gingerbread Shop in Grasmere is visited by many, famed for the tasty biscuits baked to Sarah Nelson’s own recipe. The shop is attractive because of its unspoilt simplicity.
